The Meaning Behind the Slanj Whisky Tartan

Brian reveals the inspiration behind the Slanj Whisky tartan design.

As a new project growing from the long-established kilt business, Brian knew from the beginning that the whisky needed to have its own tartan. As he experimented with different colours, patterns and thread counts, he began to develop the contemporary look he wanted to create.

The tartan was always going to have a connection to the whisky itself, with gold tones threaded throughout, while still being subtle and wearable enough to feature on the whisky bottle label.

During this time, unfortunately Brian and Craig lost their incredible father, Jack, someone they both looked up to immensely. Brian shared a particularly close relationship with his dad and wanted to incorporate a small piece of his legacy into the whisky; something meaningful that would allow them to remember and celebrate him.

After considering a few different ways to do this, Brian settled on something simple but incredibly personal: his father's date of birth.

The thread count of the tartan became 5, 3, 38 - 05.03.1938.

It's a subtle nod to their father, but one that carries a great deal of meaning.

Although you may not notice it at first, a little piece of Jack is woven into the Slanj Whisky tartan.

Every bottle of Slanj Whisky, and every item made in the Slanj Whisky tartan, is a celebration of him - and a small part of his legacy that Brian and Craig can carry forward.
